Pi

So after editing the entry, I went to look up the full plotline of The Number 23. The way wiki goes through it seems interesting, but I can see how the execution of the movie could be terrible. If it were originally a book, I would read it.

Why I’m updating this now though. At the end of the wiki, there’s a list of related movies, Pi being one of them. I’ve owned Pi for years now but have never watched it. I start reading and first thing under the plot: Max Cohen (click to enlarge)

Not sure how many people recall, if any, but in kindergarten, my best friend was Max Cohen, and we’d have sleepovers and hang out all the time (for being kids, especially). He was weird like me, but he moved away (to Minnesota)the following year because his father was a missionary. I’ve always joked about how one day I’d like to find him again. Would he remember me? I just feel like that was a silly name to bump into after reading about these situations.

I don’t think I’m obsessed (yet?) but it is extremely fascinating. Here’s Wiki on “23 Enigma”

As with most numerological claims, the enigma can be viewed as an example of apophenia, selection bias, and confirmation bias. In interviews, Wilson acknowledged the self-fulfilling nature of the enigma, implying that the real value of the Laws of Fives and Twenty-threes lies in their demonstration of the mind’s power to perceive "truth" in nearly anything.

When you start looking for something you tend to find it. This wouldn’t be like Simon Newcomb, the great astronomer, who wrote a mathematical proof that <heavier than air> flight was impossible and published it a day before the Wright brothers took off. I’m talking about people who found a pattern in nature and wrote several scientific articles and got it accepted by a large part of the scientific community before it was generally agreed that there was no such pattern, it was all just selective perception."

In the Illuminatus! Trilogy, he expresses the same view: that one can find a numerological significance to anything, provided "sufficient cleverness."

Not so much that I’m actively looking for these things, but I do take notice.

My Own Number 23

Here is a two part entry. There’s a break in the post (scroll down) for the second topic, which was written later and about the birthday!

IMG_20110204_140514Ever since James, I’ve had my own crazy thing about coincidence. In my own little code way, I gave him the label of “130” (which originated from J130, now without the letter). Like Jim Carrey’s movie, The Number 23, I slowly found myself seeing this number everywhere. Part of it was, now that I designated meaning to this number, I will notice it more often when it’s there. But I still think a part of it is ridiculous how often I ran run into it. From clocks to all the little things. Exhibit A: closet opposite the girls bathroom I walked out of (taken last week)

Then there was Dave. There’s a lot more behind that one, but I just want to note how many more people I have met named Dave, and why the name is tormenting me (not devastating, but I can’t believe how often I encounter it nowadays).

  1. Dave C. from home (with a similar voice intonation, might I add)
  2. Dave Fry
  3. Dave Dry
  4. Dave Hayes
  5. Unique Hair Dave
  6. Temple Camera Lens Dave
  7. T-Mobile Dave
  8. THE Dave
  9. Walmart Security Dave
  10. Roomate’s Boyfriend Dave (David)
  11. Club Dave
  12. District Head of Rite Aid Dave
  13. District Head of Giant Dave
  14. Mom’s Nurse Dave…
  15. Foursquare Dave Dave

Kicker. Today I went in for an interview at Doylestown Hospital.  Head of Operations (Chantel) decided to give me a tour of the place after a nice chat;  first place I was brought was into the back.

Chantel: Jeanne, I’d like you to meet Dave.
Dave: Very nice to meet you. *shake hands*
Chantel: [describing some of the operations and then telling me about Dave some more and what he’s doing. Looking at NEJOM is what I saw.]

On the way out of the back…
Dave: It was nice meeting you Smile

Riiight. There’s got to be at least 3 more, but that’s what I have for now.

Today is Lenny’s 21st Birthday. 1. Happy Birthday. 2….idk

The whole presents thing was not easy. The one suggestion I did get was something I already got for him last year. I have a nice card, made him a Reese’s dessert cake and hung a Dora banner that says PARTY * FIESTA.

Tonight is also 2 other birthdays (Lisa and Matt) and the 3V3 Basketball Tourney.  We’re leaving early to do birthday shenanigans, but now I’m feeling terrible. I just got back not too long ago, and Alex was sitting on the couch. She’s sick and very feverish. She’s not sure if she’s going to be able to go out and feels bad about it. I feel terrible not because I’m still sick myself (it’s the weirdest condition (set of conditions plural) ever) but because I was contagious.

Not sure how tonight will go. Physio exam Friday. Naked clin skills tomorrow.

One of the things that I actually have been keeping up with is Pretty Little Liars (plug: Mondays @ 8 on ABC Family). Something in that girl drama is interesting to watch (different than being a part of it) but also the characters are pretty (male and female). That aside, my group of friends all watch and we’ve pretty much assigned ourselves characters if those were our lives. I would like to think of myself as the Spencer Hastings of the group. She’s the brainy one that can tell you how many steps it is to a particular tree in the woods. Yeah, that’s me.

Her desktop background [ wallpaper ]is of the arch on the Eiffel Tower. A very pretty shot; I easily recognized it because I have a more complete picture of it in my room. But in searching the internet for what she has as her background, I ended up watching the bit of the episode where it’s visible to see how hers is oriented exactly. No luck finding it with Google Images, but there’s a small handful of people looking for it. There’s a close picture, but something just didn’t sit right…

Spencer's Desktop WallpaperA close match to what she uses

It hits me. Why don’t I just use my own picture. The one that I happened to shoot. Sure it’s a slightly different angle of view and potentially different leg of the tower, but I would like to say I’m proud of the results. [The angle her image is at shows less detailing and structure pieces.] But I say a job well done, and I actually had to flip the image to match hers, but in utilization for my own desktop (and to not be exactly like hers), I kept it at the original orientation.

My new PLL Spencer Desktop

I expanded the selection outwards just a bit, but I’m not sure where I want to put my Object Dock. I’ve had it like this for so long that I know where to move my mouse and hover for a particular app, but it’s not as aesthetically pleasing where it is with the picture. Whatever.

On this happy note, I got a call today about a job interview at Doylestown Hospital next week! Hopefully that goes well Smile I’m going to Royal’s later for dinner with Lenny before our meeting, but I should probably get cracking down on the books (Renal Physiology). Ta ta!

NOTE: As of today, I have officially begun my 365 project. Click the tab to see, but otherwise, there’s not much right now. But one picture every day for a year. Maybe I’ll throw in theme weeks or something. Month of food. Sounds good.

Dreams

To Live

I took a nap on Thursday before Pharmacognosy and these are the dreams I had. Why is my life in danger.

In the first dream, I was at the mall looking for a parking spot. I was driving and my brother was in the back. It was the evening and there was snow all around. I just turned left to get down a row and passed a car who just started pulling out of the spot (haha…I said pulling out) I went to make a U-Turn (wide one). As I finally looped around, I pulled into the spot and was so happy with myself.

We’re talking a little and I’m not sure if we were waiting to get out or waiting for people to come out of the mall. We were sitting there for not even a minute and I heard the back door open. I wasn’t concerned (as though we were waiting for someone) but then I realize that they were not people we knew. 2-3 black males somewhat hyped up. He had a small gun and was holding it against my head as another was watching my brother. I freaked out. I was almost crying but tried to reason with them. I told them that I didn’t have anything valuable in my purse (partially lying, since I have a few things that might be worth something), but I explained how I was a kid in med school and am shit broke.

He backed down a little as if he knew how broke I was. They decided to let us go, but before the kid with the gun left, he kinda laughed at me and jabbed me a few times by my eye with his gun (which was fairly warm/hot) like this was the best joke ever. But they left.

The next dream I had, I was watching someone do a sniper mission for someone. As soon as the job was done, the boss gave the OK for his own guy to kill the sniper. Sniper was caught off guard (as he was hired to do the job) and I had to tell him that they never intended to pay him. I brought myself into this battlefield. Shot the boss’s guy and kept moving. We were in somewhat of a bunker, and it was like a chain reaction of guys who were hired to take out the previous guy or at least cover the job if someone fails. I’m taking them down one by one, but then when it seems to be calmer, they start pulling grenade-like weapons and smoke bombs. It was as though I was in a trailer and someone threw in a cluster of little grenades (5) and there was no way for me to get rid of them.

They exploded but I wasn’t killed (somehow)

In the third dream…Ugh. I can’t recall anymore. I asked my room mate because I remember mentioning it to him, but he’s trying to remember at the moment either… I just know it was another dream with my life on the line somewhere.

EDIT (01 Feb): SETH TRUMBORE AND FINAL FANTASY VII. I was in a bar type place and one of the songs from FFVII was playing and I saw Seth sitting there and wanted to strike up conversation about the game. There were a lot of interruptions and I never got to actually talk to him about the game. That’s all that comes to mind.

Condensing

I want to try something new. I’m thinking about a new domain name. My brother is not being much of a help as he won’t even tell me if he wants to renew his domain. “I don’t care,” was his response. I’m just slightly annoyed right now. But I wanted to merge a few things and streamline my online shenanigans.

Where do I begin? Kuro-Shiro has been around for a while and it’s been my little net. At the same time, that was more generated in my Japan Addict phase and doesn’t reflect me as much now (plus, no one can remember the name.) Where do I go?

I’m not sure how hard it will be to switch things over to a new domain or where I even want to go. My whole hosting thing expires this year too (bummer) so it’s time to think some things out. What’s in a name?

I haven’t done much with the site, but webmail is Google based, which is super sweet. All the Gmail I want Smile

There’s been a lot of spark lately too. Trying to get back into the flow of what I used to do, a lot of people have been doing a photo thing. Ex. Project 365. Yinga is so inspirational; just reading the things in her life make me either jealous of her or just feel bad that I’m nowhere near that. But there’s this 30-day challenge that some girls in Omega have been doing and so I want to. For a while now. Probably happened somewhere after stormtrooper 365 (LOVE Stéfan’s work, btw) and Jamie’s photo a day gig.

School, for just starting, is kind of rough. I’m having a hard time transitioning and actually being motivated to do anything. Things I should be doing vs. the things I rather be doing. There’s a lot going on in my head, and I would love to just have some more time. I could go on for days, but who needs that.

Little secret: in my less than chipper moods, I get some really outrageous ideas. I was feeling a little more towards miserable the other day and was looking into a new toy…a macbook. Don’t judge. I have this tendency to take forever to make a decision, but as soon as I do, I’m so set where I can’t let myself change that thought. I have been so Anti-Mac my entire life, but it’s still a new toy.

There’s so much I should be doing.
