Pi

So after editing the entry, I went to look up the full plotline of The Number 23. The way wiki goes through it seems interesting, but I can see how the execution of the movie could be terrible. If it were originally a book, I would read it.

Why I’m updating this now though. At the end of the wiki, there’s a list of related movies, Pi being one of them. I’ve owned Pi for years now but have never watched it. I start reading and first thing under the plot: Max Cohen (click to enlarge)

Not sure how many people recall, if any, but in kindergarten, my best friend was Max Cohen, and we’d have sleepovers and hang out all the time (for being kids, especially). He was weird like me, but he moved away (to Minnesota)the following year because his father was a missionary. I’ve always joked about how one day I’d like to find him again. Would he remember me? I just feel like that was a silly name to bump into after reading about these situations.

I don’t think I’m obsessed (yet?) but it is extremely fascinating. Here’s Wiki on “23 Enigma”

As with most numerological claims, the enigma can be viewed as an example of apophenia, selection bias, and confirmation bias. In interviews, Wilson acknowledged the self-fulfilling nature of the enigma, implying that the real value of the Laws of Fives and Twenty-threes lies in their demonstration of the mind’s power to perceive "truth" in nearly anything.

When you start looking for something you tend to find it. This wouldn’t be like Simon Newcomb, the great astronomer, who wrote a mathematical proof that <heavier than air> flight was impossible and published it a day before the Wright brothers took off. I’m talking about people who found a pattern in nature and wrote several scientific articles and got it accepted by a large part of the scientific community before it was generally agreed that there was no such pattern, it was all just selective perception."

In the Illuminatus! Trilogy, he expresses the same view: that one can find a numerological significance to anything, provided "sufficient cleverness."

Not so much that I’m actively looking for these things, but I do take notice.

My Own Number 23

Here is a two part entry. There’s a break in the post (scroll down) for the second topic, which was written later and about the birthday!

IMG_20110204_140514Ever since James, I’ve had my own crazy thing about coincidence. In my own little code way, I gave him the label of “130” (which originated from J130, now without the letter). Like Jim Carrey’s movie, The Number 23, I slowly found myself seeing this number everywhere. Part of it was, now that I designated meaning to this number, I will notice it more often when it’s there. But I still think a part of it is ridiculous how often I ran run into it. From clocks to all the little things. Exhibit A: closet opposite the girls bathroom I walked out of (taken last week)

Then there was Dave. There’s a lot more behind that one, but I just want to note how many more people I have met named Dave, and why the name is tormenting me (not devastating, but I can’t believe how often I encounter it nowadays).

  1. Dave C. from home (with a similar voice intonation, might I add)
  2. Dave Fry
  3. Dave Dry
  4. Dave Hayes
  5. Unique Hair Dave
  6. Temple Camera Lens Dave
  7. T-Mobile Dave
  8. THE Dave
  9. Walmart Security Dave
  10. Roomate’s Boyfriend Dave (David)
  11. Club Dave
  12. District Head of Rite Aid Dave
  13. District Head of Giant Dave
  14. Mom’s Nurse Dave…
  15. Foursquare Dave Dave

Kicker. Today I went in for an interview at Doylestown Hospital.  Head of Operations (Chantel) decided to give me a tour of the place after a nice chat;  first place I was brought was into the back.

Chantel: Jeanne, I’d like you to meet Dave.
Dave: Very nice to meet you. *shake hands*
Chantel: [describing some of the operations and then telling me about Dave some more and what he’s doing. Looking at NEJOM is what I saw.]

On the way out of the back…
Dave: It was nice meeting you Smile

Riiight. There’s got to be at least 3 more, but that’s what I have for now.

Today is Lenny’s 21st Birthday. 1. Happy Birthday. 2….idk

The whole presents thing was not easy. The one suggestion I did get was something I already got for him last year. I have a nice card, made him a Reese’s dessert cake and hung a Dora banner that says PARTY * FIESTA.

Tonight is also 2 other birthdays (Lisa and Matt) and the 3V3 Basketball Tourney.  We’re leaving early to do birthday shenanigans, but now I’m feeling terrible. I just got back not too long ago, and Alex was sitting on the couch. She’s sick and very feverish. She’s not sure if she’s going to be able to go out and feels bad about it. I feel terrible not because I’m still sick myself (it’s the weirdest condition (set of conditions plural) ever) but because I was contagious.

Not sure how tonight will go. Physio exam Friday. Naked clin skills tomorrow.

One of the things that I actually have been keeping up with is Pretty Little Liars (plug: Mondays @ 8 on ABC Family). Something in that girl drama is interesting to watch (different than being a part of it) but also the characters are pretty (male and female). That aside, my group of friends all watch and we’ve pretty much assigned ourselves characters if those were our lives. I would like to think of myself as the Spencer Hastings of the group. She’s the brainy one that can tell you how many steps it is to a particular tree in the woods. Yeah, that’s me.

Her desktop background [ wallpaper ]is of the arch on the Eiffel Tower. A very pretty shot; I easily recognized it because I have a more complete picture of it in my room. But in searching the internet for what she has as her background, I ended up watching the bit of the episode where it’s visible to see how hers is oriented exactly. No luck finding it with Google Images, but there’s a small handful of people looking for it. There’s a close picture, but something just didn’t sit right…

Spencer's Desktop WallpaperA close match to what she uses

It hits me. Why don’t I just use my own picture. The one that I happened to shoot. Sure it’s a slightly different angle of view and potentially different leg of the tower, but I would like to say I’m proud of the results. [The angle her image is at shows less detailing and structure pieces.] But I say a job well done, and I actually had to flip the image to match hers, but in utilization for my own desktop (and to not be exactly like hers), I kept it at the original orientation.

My new PLL Spencer Desktop

I expanded the selection outwards just a bit, but I’m not sure where I want to put my Object Dock. I’ve had it like this for so long that I know where to move my mouse and hover for a particular app, but it’s not as aesthetically pleasing where it is with the picture. Whatever.

On this happy note, I got a call today about a job interview at Doylestown Hospital next week! Hopefully that goes well Smile I’m going to Royal’s later for dinner with Lenny before our meeting, but I should probably get cracking down on the books (Renal Physiology). Ta ta!

NOTE: As of today, I have officially begun my 365 project. Click the tab to see, but otherwise, there’s not much right now. But one picture every day for a year. Maybe I’ll throw in theme weeks or something. Month of food. Sounds good.

#AGoodWoman knows true worth comes from who are you, what you do, and how you treat people, not how big you make your breasts or booty.

That’s good to know. What’s the kicker is that it came from a man.

Today Yesterday is was Amanda’s birthday. Her 21st. I haven’t seen her in years, but I did hear back when I wished her a happy birthday. Now that I haven’t posted this, I’m late.

I went home after class today to take my mom out for dinner. She’s doing better, but not working too much. So this was like my own belated birthday dinner at Benihana’s. Delicious. I got a Buddha candle and everything. The water heater is also broken at the house so there’s no water. I figured out what needs to be done so I decided to spend the night and help my mom fix it before I have to get to class tomorrow.

There is so much going on it is absolutely ridiculous. Everyone feels the same too. Our minds are blown. shot. Done.

I could whine about a few more things, but I should get to my nap now since I need to get up early to fix the water and then get back to the city. Crap. The 80s party is tonight and I have jack to wear. Ut oh.
